Duke Reid - Run Rhythm Run
Rocksteady and Reggae instrumentals from Treasure Isle
Heartbeat CD 1996, recorded 196x - 197x, produced by Duke Reid.
Vintage reggae reissues are notorious for a lack of concrete information in the liner notes, but this is even skimpier than most. All that's known is that these rock-steady instrumentals were produced by Duke Reid during the 1960s at Treasure Isle, and that the musicians included Tommy McCook & the Supersonics and the Duke Reid Group. That means that although this is a various artists compilation, there are no actual "groups" credited with the individual tracks; it's almost as if they were "found" riddim tracks.
On Run Rhythm Run you'll find a wicked selection of unreleased instrumental scorchers, versions of several Treasure Isle hits. Included are versions of "Love Is A Gamble", "Girl I've Got A Date", "I Can't Hide", "Stealing Stealing", and "Everybody's Bawling". This set proves once more that Duke Reid only used the cream of the crop of Jamaican's top musicians. Crucial album !
